Education & Training
POPAI is committed to providing first class education, training and personal development opportunities to the retail marketing industry.
Here you will find details on the broad range of activities we offer, from full residential courses, through to student design awards and an e-course.
All of these activities are planned and managed by the education working group who meet four or five times a year to plan how to best meet the needs of a diverse and dynamic industry. To get involved with the group, please contact the POPAI office.
The POPAI AGM and Meeting on 31st January 2008 at the SCI, London saw all of the working groups present a review of their achievements throughout 2007 and make clear their intentions for the P-O-P industry for the next 12 months and beyond.

Certificate in Point of Purchase
The Certificate in Point of Purchase has been designed to address the needs of P-O-P practitioners who strive to increase the effectiveness of their activities and at the same time, are faced with securing budgets and support for the activities they are involved in. On completion of the course, delegates should:
- Be able to view individual P-O-P projects within the context of underlying organisational strategic objectives.
- Have an appreciation of what drives the shopper and how these drivers can be used in the production of effective P-O-P material.
- Recognise the elements of the P-O-P supply, value & distribution chains and understand how each element operates.
- Develop a wider understanding of the retail environment, its potential and limitations.
- Adopt a more holistic approach to P-O-P activities.
This residential course is held at the C.I.M headquarters in Berkshire and will be held in mid-June & July 2008

Now a well established national competition, the Student Design Award aims to encourage students from a broad range of academic design disciplines into the P-O-P design industry.
Incorporated into the POPAI Awards, this year's annual contest sees students from up and down the UK submitting a P-O-P design to fit the brief set by the award sponsors, Walkers Snacks Ltd.
With a total prize pot of £1,750, the Student Design Award is always popular with budding P-O-P designers and keenly followed by major brands and UK P-O-P design companies eager to spot the next big talent.
NEW for 2007/08 - The POPAI Scholarship - win a job for a year!
In partnership with leading P-O-P designers / manufacturers bezier and Capital, POPAI is pleased to be able to offer entrants into the Student Design Awards the chance to win a job for a year working in the P-O-P industry. As part of the judging process, two lucky entrants will be offered the chance to work in the creative departments, putting into practice the skills they've been developing at university.
P-O-P e-Course
POPAI is developing a web-based course, to be launched in Spring 2008, designed to give an entry-level overview of the P-O-P industry.
Accessible online, the interactive e-course will give learners a concise, practical grounding in the day-to-day workings of the industry with 5 x 30-minute sessions covering:
• The retail environment • Shopper behaviour • Processes involved in the production of temporary, permanent, digital & semi- permanent P-O-P • Hot topics in P-O-P today (including greeen issues, measurement, effectiveness and compliance)
The e-course will take approximately 4 hours to complete but is designed to fit around a busy work schedule - progress can be saved and revisited at any time with downloadable handouts and a certificate upon completion.
The course also acts as the perfect introduction to the full Certificate in P-O-P (above)
