Paul Lowry, Design Director, and Julian Esposito, Head of Digital at TapCreative, presented on embedding sustainability throughout the customer journey - spanning pre-store, in-store, and post-store experiences. They outlined four key pillars: navigating the sustainability landscape, materials and design, the conscious shopper, and the future of sustainability in retail. The presentation touched on external factors like the economic environment, ESG models, consumer expectations, and the often higher cost of sustainable options. In terms of materials and design, they emphasised the importance of modular, multi-purpose, and recyclable components. It was highlighted that over 50% of millennials, Gen X, and Gen Z expect brands to integrate sustainability into their identity and designs.
Looking to the future, TapCreative sees the push toward net-zero as critical, requiring brands to adopt circular design, strengthen their sustainability strategies, and enhance transparency across the supply chain. More anticipated trends include more EV fleets, sourcing from local suppliers, and an increasing consumer demand for social equity from brands.
