Sustainability has long been a watchword for retailers. A rallying call from the United Nations for all countries to work towards sustainable development led to a global focus from the industry, with its challenge to ‘promote prosperity while protecting the planet’ inviting scrutiny at a granular level. Brands and retailers have also been quick to recognise the value of their sustainability initiatives in terms of sales and attracting and retaining customers. Strong alignment with individual beliefs and the visions and practices of an organisation mean that shoppers will frequently choose or shun a brand or retailer accordingly.
This white paper from Shop! Addresses issues of sustainability for retail at a global level, offering a roadmap for change, exploring in detail the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and highlighting the implantation of POPAI France and POPAI UK & Ireland Eco-Standard initiatives. The paper looks at the importance of sustainability from the perspective of brands/retailers, designers and suppliers.
